This 16-hour course will introduce students to monitoring and detection equipment. Equipment will include the Draeger Quantimeter, the HazCat WMD Detection Kit, a field chemistry kit, the First Defender Ahura, and also the matrix of radiation detectors and dosimeters available to you for radiation incidents. The course will discuss the operating principles, applicable uses, and advantages and disadvantages of each piece. Students will use the instruments in conjunction with other hazmat skills to characterize unknown materials and their associated hazards. This course meets the requirements of NFPA 472 Air-Monitoring Mission-Specific Competencies.
